The students welcomed us with their incredible cultural singing and dancing and even the deluge of rain that thundered on the roof above us couldn't drown out the amazing sounds of these kids.

Millennium Kids - young people encouraging others to be aware and active in their environment
Partnership with Centre for Water Research, University of Western Australia
MK Australia developed a partnership with Centre for Water Research, University of Western Australia in 2009. The partnership sees young people coming together to research their river history, understand how people use the river now and in the past and connect with other young people in local, regional and international communities to develop practical action projects that address river and water issues. Tonia , the St Hildas Year 5 teacher is a little bit excited. Daily phone calls, bags packed already. The children in her class have made and sold bags of popcorn adding $800 to the donations for the bore hole at Ntshidi Middle . Her class has also made dolls for the children without toys as a small gift. It is going to be cold in Mafikeng at night - last night was -3. Hope she has room for a sleeping bag and a sleeping mat???

ABOUT MKLOOKINGFORWATER
In 2000 MK Australia met a team of young people from South Africa at the UNEP Leave It To Us Conference in the UK. Since that time the two groups have worked together to empower young people to create local practical action projects in their communities. This journey in July 2009 will see MK Australia revisit North West Province, South Africa to visit their friends, learn how their projects are going and share information about project development. Through this blog you will meet young people and their mentors including Steve,Yvonne, Lorato, Vultures, Sampi, Spoonzi, Gabby and many others who are trying to improve their lives and the lives of others.
